“Very Inspiring Blogger Award”-A Little Bit Of Fun Facts About Me

very-inspiring-blogger-award

(Note: This Saturday I have a fun book give-way happening and guest blog post by the author of “Birds Eye View” so make sure you pop by again on Nov 8th.)

It is with great “Fun honour” that I hereby accept this award given to me by the “Toronto Vintage Society“. Thank you dear TVS you are truly a wonderful and fun society that I LOVE being part of 🙂

Now upon receiving this “just for fun” blog award, I must now share seven random facts about myself and then share the love with other bloggers that inspire me.

Here we go!

Random Fact # 1:

My father was born in Germany and because of this I’m heavily involved in German Karneval.

Karneval in Germany

What is German Karneval you ask? Well basically it’s like Mardi Gras but instead of just one day or week it runs for several months, November 11th till Rose Monday in March. In Germany it is celebrated in the Rhineland (several areas of Western Germany along the Middle and Lower Rhine) and is a time of much merriment (and lots and lots of parties). They even have Prince and Princess of Karneval (I was once a Princess, years ago)!

I also German danced in a Karneval group since the age of 6 and stopped after 16 years when I moved away from home (fun fact: my mom danced in a Karneval troupe as well and that is how she met my dad). Here is an example of the kind of dancing I did called “Garde Dancing”. This video is from Germany and these women are outstanding!

Random Fact # 2:

I’m not actually a blonde…natural Brunette. sssshhhhhh 🙂 I have been a Blonde for gosh…14 years I believe and I don’t think that will change anytime soon.

Random Fact # 3:

I can’t ride a bike without crashing into things. I’m like bambi on 2 wheels when I get on one. So I let my bike collect dust in our garage.

Random Fact # 4:

I have being watching the same Soap Opera “General Hospital” for around 20 years. I have very rarely ever missed an episode (thanks goodness for PVR) and have even gotten my husband a tiny bit into “my stories”.

Random Fact # 5:

I have a degree in Fashion Marketing from Ryerson University but I work as Marketing Coordinator at an IT company. Super far away from the fashion world (thank goodness for my vintage blog).

Random Fact # 6:

I own probably around 40 pairs of shoes and every week I wear the same ones. Why? I live in such a small apartment that my shoes are packed away nicely (to make room for other items) and it’s too much of a bother to search for what I want. One day they will have their time to shine…one day!

Random Fact # 7

I went thru a stage while in High School where I listened to nothing but the music of Metallica. Yes for about 5 mins of my life, this 1940s loving gal was obsessed with Heavy Metal.

And there you have it. I hope you enjoyed learning a few fun facts about dear old Liz of the Vintage Inn.

Onto the Other Blogger Nominations….

Now should blog awards not exactly be your favourite cup of tea (or if you’ve already received this one before and have no desire to post a “round two” of your own), fear not, you’re under zero obligation to play along. These kinds of posts are intended to be nothing but lighthearted fun, and should they not feel that way to you, by all means bow out of taking part in this one. I think blog awards are fun and a great way to find out a bit more about the blogs you adore but I understand not everyone loves them.

If though, you would like to take part, then all you have to is whip up a post of your own about receiving The Very Inspiring Blogger Award in which you link back to this post, share seven random facts about yourself, and bestow the award on folks whose sites you find to be a continual source of inspiration.

Have a wonderful day friends!

Mad Men- The Final Season Is Upon Us

NOOOO!!! I cannot believe that Mad Men the final season is coming up this Sunday! I’m not ready, can’t make me watch it..no no no! I don’t want my favorite vintage ad men and women to be out of my life for forever!!!

Madmen_Glaser

Lol! Okay all joking aside, it IS the final season of Mad Men and whether you watched the show or did not watch the show you have to admit that it did contribute a lot to our current culture.  Vintage cocktails are uber popular again, 1950s & 60s clothes are not just seen in second-hand stores anymore and drinking at the work place has become a “can’t we bring that back?” conversation everywhere 🙂

I know one of my favorite thing about the show has been the clothing. Every week I would sit in front of my TV and ohhh and awww with each passing outfit and dream of having the clothing designer of the show land on my lap with every gorgeous dress I saw..in my size! Sadly that will never happen but a girl can dream, right?

Lets check out some of my favorite outfits.

Betty Draper Season 1 1950s dress

This outfit that Betty Draper is wearing in season 1 is something I would wear in a heart beat.

mad men clothing

As you move thru the seasons you pretty much realize that Joan could wear a paper bag to work every day and still look amazing. This simple but gorgeous dress is no exception. The colour is wonderful on her.

Mad Men Betty

I want, I want I want! Betty for the win for the cutest tennis outfit..ever!

madmen season 2

I love blue and both of these dresses are just lovely.

peggy olson dress

Season 2 finally saw Peggy in some nice dresses as opposed to the frumpy ones she wore in season 1.

joan mad men season 2

Yes, Yes..and oh..Yes! I have a skirt like Joan on the right but I don’t look as good as her in it lol!

mad men season 3 fashion

I think I love this outfit because it just screams spring/summer which are my favorite seasons.

mad men season 3 fashion

This is one of my favorite Peggy outfits because it is so me! I could totally see myself wearing this to the office.

mad men fashion

Wow! this dress is just..wow!

mad men fashion peggy

mad men peggy fashion

Another Peggy dress that I would wear over and over again.

mad men season 4 fashion

Each one of these outfits are glorious and wonderful. I love Joan’s brooch on her flowered dress as well.

mad men fashion

As the show moved more into the 1960s I fell a bit out of love with the outfits as the 60’s are not my favorite fashion era. However there were still some great outfits even if I was not oohing and awwing anymore.

Did you have a favorite outfit or two from the show? Will you be watching the final season?

If you live in Toronto you should join myself and the Toronto Vintage Society at the Cadillac Lounge on Sunday evening for our Mad Men party, it will be a blast!

Bomb Girls Needs Your Help!

It is with sad sad news that I found out last week that my beloved Bomb Girls has been cancelled by Global TV. If you have read any of my posts on Bomb Girls you know that I’m a huge fan and when I found out I was not a happy camper. How could a show that has won awards, has fans all over the world and is one of the best and well written shows on TV right now, get cancelled?  I have read the reasons online and they don’t make a lot of sense and so I believe there is still hope for the show to be picked up by someone other then Global (I truly believe that Global TV won’t renew it). The show needs your help though!

Please visit “Save Bomb Girls” for all the information on how you can help and try to save the show.
